This clay folk toy is moulded and painted by hand by the artisans of the Tsuyazaki studio, which has been based in Fukutsu (Fukuoka) for over 200 years. Each piece is made individually using a mixture of local clay and natural pigments.
Representing a dragon, the only imaginary animal in the 12 Chinese zodiacs, it is depicted seated and raising its paw like a maneki-neko, inviting good fortune.
