Mini kokeshi produced in Naruko Onsen by the Sakurai family, who have specialised in making these traditional dolls for 6 generations.
Kokeshi are wooden dolls produced in the Tohoku region of northern Japan by artisans who have been specialising in making them over the years. Traditionally given to children to wish them good health, they are made from local wood, turned and delicately hand-painted according to the individual style of each artisan.
