A collection full of surprises

French illustrator Amélie Fontaine’s whimsical drawings add a touch of curiosity and delight to traditional Ko-sometsuke porcelain, whose simple and unpretentious traits characterise ceramics produced in Arita from its inception, in 1616, to the 1650s. This type of porcelain, featuring underglaze-blue patterns on a rough ceramic base, was especially popular to be used in the Japanese tea ceremony in the 17th century.

The artworks of this collection are transferred by hand onto the unglazed ceramic, creating slight variations in colour and thickness from one piece to another.
